Like many good stories, ours begins at the dinner table. Having hosted a number of international students in their own home over the years, Will and his wife Stephanie had heard many stories over dinner with their international family. During one particular homestay, they were hosting several students who were attending a language school in downtown Chicago. Through those dinnertime conversations it became obvious those students felt like they were spending a lot of time and money to study English but were not satisfied with the results. Ineffective or uninterested teachers, over-sized classes, and other internationals speaking their native language in the same classroom were common complaints. Several students transferred to other ESL schools only to find similar results. Often their students said they learned more from their homestay experience than in the classes they attended. Finding so many students frustrated by wasted resources and unmet goals, they decided they could help. Pulling from their own cross-cultural backgrounds and experience in business education, Will and Stephanie founded My International Family.
