Who is MIF?

My International Family is dedicated to building cross-cultural bridges that cultivate a more compassionate, informed and responsible global community rooted in mutual respect and solidarity.  We seek to accomplish this mission through a variety of opportunities in language learning, teaching and homestays. 
 
MIF has been the leading homestay placement organization for K-12 students in the Chicagoland area since 2013 and has been involved in homestays and hosting for international students for over twelve years. In 2019, MIF expanded to become a J-1 designated sponsor through the US Department of State; and currently houses a host family database of more than 3,900 families.

Our Philosophy

We know that students who travel and are exposed to international environments and relationships are going back to their home countries and become leaders. It is ultimately the strength or weakness of these relationships that will influence their personal perspective, the perspectives of those that these individuals are in contact with, as well as business and political interactions between countries. MIF helps facilitate cross-cultural bridges through a variety of opportunities in language learning, teaching and homestays.
 
By creating positive international exchanges for both students, hosts and teachers, we’re able to realize this dream on multiple levels.  It is our belief that developing healthy cross-cultural relationships are the best ways to cultivate a more compassionate, informed global community rooted in mutual respect and solidarity. 

What We Offer?

Short Term Programming - MIF offers two distinct, short-term homestay options, (1) Language Development; and (2) Cultural/Recreational.  Both provide ample opportunity to practice English and experience the American culture with your host family.
 
F-1 Student Visas – The F-1 Visa is specifically for college and high school students attending private high schools and colleges in the United States.  The F-1 status allows students to study in the US for their entire academic career.
 
J-1 Student Visas – The J-1 Visa is specifically designed for high school students studying abroad in a US public high schools.  The J-1 Visa is good for only one academic year.  
 
Teacher Exchange -  MIF partners with overseas schools to train and refer English teachers.  Requirements and terms of contract differ, depending on which school/country the teachers choose.
